Meet The Developers!
Before we get into the meat of today’s post, we’d like to give everyone some details regarding our Meet The Developers event. Firstly, the when:
Saturday, April 22nd, 12 pm to 6 pm Eastern Standard Time
As for the what: The development team* will be hanging around the Freeworlds Discord Server to chill out with the community, answer questions about the game and its development and talk a bit about where we’re headed. It’s a great opportunity for new players to hear about what’s coming down the pipeline, and for our old hands to get reacquainted with the game that’s brought us all together.
For those of you interested in specific areas of development, here’s who you may want to talk to about any given area:
- FriendlyFire – Overall mod development / technical questions regarding feature implementation, graphical changes/updates, and coding.
- Sizer – In-game art, models, textures and overall creative direction.
- Kalis – Combat balance and ship/weapon integration.
- Dart – Game Control Panel development.
- DarkForce – Lore and roleplay development, events and community relations.
- Arvis_Taljik – Models and textures.
- Assistant Developers: Alifisno, Angstman, Teradyn, Volume_9, Caconym, Rico.
*Please note that not everyone listed may be there the entire day, or at all. If this is the case, direct your question/comment to DarkForce (me). I will relay any and all messages to the appropriate people.
Progress On The Game Control Panel
Many of the new features that we’d like to implement alongside the game’s next major release rely on a robust backend powered by what we call the Game Control Panel. This panel will cover almost all of a player’s needs for character maintenance, including banking, stat tracking, progression, and a whole host of other features going forward. We’ve talked about it for quite some time, but we’ve finally got a bit of progress to show.
Please note that the images posted here are very preliminary and the features and designs shown within are subject to change. These are, however, not mockups. These are straight from our test site (not available to anyone but the developers working on it, at the moment, sorry).
Not much explaining to do here. For now (and very likely permanently), we’ll be referring to the control panel as the HoloNet. Pictured above is our new login screen.
One of the most important features of the HoloNet (CP) will be player banking. Money earned from any of your characters will be deposited into a single account on the HoloNet. From here, you will be able to send money from your account to any other player, for whatever purpose.
However, say you want to make a less-than-honorable purchase. Perhaps you owe money to a bookie or want to pay a bounty hunter for some nefarious work. You wouldn’t want your actual account name to be attached to such a transaction, would you? This brings us to…
The Alias Screen
From here, you’ll be able to create any number of unique aliases with which you can conduct business. The emphasis on unique is because once an alias is used by another person, it cannot be used by anyone else unless that person deletes the alias.
Of course, the important takeaway from all this is that players, if they wish, will be able to conduct business completely anonymously if they so choose. If your legitimate trader character ‘Upstanding John Doe’ has a grudge against a rival and you want to hire a mercenary to take them out, you can create an alias, maybe ‘Joe Starschmoe’, and send the mercenary some money, along with a message for your rival, without anyone ever knowing it was you.
I’ll just let the potential ramifications of the banking/alias system sink in for everyone. We’ll continue to bring you updates on HoloNet (CP) features as they become available.
Recruitment is now open for all factions! The New Republic, Imperial Remnant, Corellian Protectorate and Hutt Syndicate are all waiting for you! Want to join the community? It couldn’t be simpler: Join our Discord Channels! Click on the links below:
